A jungle staple, Philodendron can be found throughout the tropical Americas in hundreds of differing forms. Some species are climbing, epiphytic vines, while others are free-standing shrubs that can grow to several feet tall. Foliage, too, can be deceptively diverse among the Philodendron, even on the same plant. Young leaves emerge surrounded by a delicate sheathe, unfolding gradually and maturing through several stages before settling into their adult shape.
